Is a Vehicle Assurance Extended Warranty Worth It?

Vehicle Assurance is a vehicle service contract broker that offers a large number of plans through four different administrators. The company was founded in 2007 in St. Charles, Missouri. You can get plans in any state except California through the Vehicle Assurance website.

The company is fairly average when it comes to coverage options, cost and transparency. However, it doesn’t have a good customer service reputation. In fact, we did not find any positive reviews on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or the company’s Google profile. Vehicle Assurance currently has a B+ rating from the BBB along with a notice warning consumers of a pattern of complaints.

Vehicle Assurance Extended Car Warranty Coverage

At first glance, Vehicle Assurance offers an almost dizzying array of extended warranty plans. There are 11 in total. In reality, the company offers standard coverage choices through four different vehicle service contract administrators: United Car Care, Omega Auto Care, American Auto Shield and Heartland. Each administrator offers two or three plans, and many of them are very similar.

What Vehicle Assurance Doesn’t Cover

Even the most comprehensive bumper-to-bumper extended warranty doesn’t cover everything. Here are a few examples of parts and situations that are excluded from Vehicle Assurance coverage:

Each plan requires a waiting period of at least 30 days and 1,000 miles. If you drive infrequently, some plans will require you to wait 90 days and 200 miles before you can file a claim.

Cost of a Vehicle Assurance Extended Warranty

Vehicle Assurance doesn’t publish prices online or provide an online quote tool. In one BBB review, a driver reported receiving a quote with a monthly payment of $100, which is right around the average monthly cost of an auto service contract. Your own quote may differ, however. The age and mileage of your vehicle will influence the prices you’ll find, since repair costs increase as cars age.

In our research, we found most plans from leading providers can cost between $1,700 and

$3,000, depending on the vehicle. You can use that as a guide if you get a quote from Vehicle Assurance. The company says it offers a wide range of no-fee payment plans to fit any budget. Vehicle Assurance contracts have a standard deductible of $100, but other options are available.

How to Get a Quote and File a Claim

Speaking of quotes, the only way to get one from Vehicle Assurance is to call in with your information. Be prepared to provide your car’s year, make, model, mileage and vehicle identification number (VIN). Interestingly, the Vehicle Assurance website says there is an online quote form, but when we tried to fill it out, the actual form was missing.

To file a claim, you can go to any repair shop certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE ® ). Once there, have the shop contact your contract administrator to initiate the claim. Your administrator will need to authorize any repairs before work begins.

You may need to authorize a diagnosis or tear down, and you’ll have to pay that charge if the repair is not covered. If the repair is covered, you’ll only pay your deductible to the shop.
